A journal about clothing, fit, construction and the tailoring trade, written from the perspective of people who work with garments every day.
There is a great deal hidden inside a well-made garment: judgement, proportion, construction, balance, fitting, alteration and the decisions made by the people responsible for creating it.
Much of that knowledge traditionally lived inside tailoring workrooms and was passed from one generation of the trade to the next. For the person buying or wearing the garment, however, the process can remain largely invisible.
The Perth Tailoring Co Journal exists to make some of that knowledge accessible.
We write about the things we believe are worth understanding: how clothing is constructed, what determines fit, what can and cannot reasonably be altered, how different methods of making garments work, and why apparently small decisions can have a considerable effect on the way clothing sits, moves and wears.
The purpose is not to persuade you towards a particular decision. It is to give you enough information to ask better questions, recognise good work and make an informed decision for yourself.
Knowledge before decisions.
Truth before marketing.
Practical knowledge about garments, craftsmanship and the decisions behind good tailoring.
